Our 5-year vow renewal.

“A five year vow renewal?”, I was once asked. With my response being, “why not?” Over the years, I’ve learned what it takes work to make a marriage successful. And sometimes it’s hard. Straight up digging deep & uncovering things within ourselves that need to be uprooted. In any relationship, it’s learning the beauty of communicating and not allowing pride to keep you from breakthrough. Its tearing down walls & creating a safe place within each other.

Marriage has been one of the most rewarding thing for me. It deserves to be celebrated. To be acknowledged & shown how God can continue to build up two broken people & make them whole as a union. This vow renewal was so special to us because every day we choose to love even when it’s hard. We forgive when we are wrong. We show up for each other to be the best teammates & not each other’s competition. To put God first in everything we do & give Him the honor for being our strength during dark seasons.

You see, this vow renewal wasn’t just for pictures. This was a celebration & declaration that once again, we vow to be committed to forever. In front of our friends and family to know that what we have is real— for better or for worse. For richer or poorer. In sickness and in health. To love & cherish, until death do us part.

If you are deciding on having a vow renewal in 5 years, 10 years, or even 50 years, please do. There’s something so special about going through years of growth & taking time to enjoy the fruits of your labor together. It’s quite beautiful, the deep level of love that’s created over the years. It deserves to be celebrated.

For our vow renewal, I knew I wanted to do something so intimate. I ‘ve always desired a backyard celebration . So, we did just that. I found our location on peerspace.com and got the space for a reasonable price. The space was perfect and the decor such as the tent behind us was included. It made for the perfect backdrop to our special day.

I also went ahead and found someone who was very talented at what she did and hired her to execute my vision and make it come to life. If a event planner isn’t possible due to costs, I would highly recommend going on Pinterest and finding ways you can DIY and create the look you so desire.

For our ceremony we kept it pretty simple because the heat in Texas on a hot June day, isn’t forgiving. We had my best friend Marlene’s husband officiate the wedding. As we exchanged our vows and kissed, my best friend closed in prayer.

After the ceremony, we took pictures and socialized with friends. We hired a taco food truck to come and feed the guests & had a bartender to make some drinks. We ended the night dancing and celebrating with cake. If I could, I would do this all over again.
